My Money, My Home

In Japan seven years ago, the central government began allowing city residents to divert a proportion of their income-tax payments to a furusato of their choice, a schema known as the furusato nozei, and the response has been overwhelming: in the last fiscal year rural towns earned $1.2 billion from such contributions. Some city-dwellers still harbour strong feelings towards their furusato, or home town, that rural area which their forebears may have left many decades ago, but others choose a furusato simply because they like the area. Lucky rural towns, suffering financially as a result of ageing and shrinking, are especially delighted as the furusato nozei is proving a windfall.

Robochef: The Anthropomorphic Argument

Mark Oleynik hopes to change the home kitchen by introducing a robot cook that is as good as a top chef but which can be installed in all houses. It can, in principle, be used to cook more or less anything: a pair of dexterous robotic hands suspended from the ceiling assemble the ingredients, mix them, and cook them in pots and pans as required, on a hob or in an oven. A prototype of the idea, unveiled in Hanover, has been demonstrating its culinary prowess in public, by whipping up an excellent crab bisque. The machine’s finesse comes because its hands, human-sized and with jointed fingers and thumbs, are copying the actions of a particular human chef, who has cooked the recipe specially in order to provide a template for the robot to copy. The plan is to support the automated kitchen with an online library of more than 2,000 recipes.

Oleynik hopes to have the first commercial model of the robochef on sale in 2017, with a price tag of around €14,000.

Portray

Nirvana is my favorite band and I have always been interested in the Cobain mythology. But it was only now, after I saw Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck that I realized that the best portrayal of Cobain is in Nirvana's 1992 album: Incesticide. The Wife, The Daughter, Kurt.

Eurabia

In the last novel of Michel Houellebecq, Soumission, Mohammed Ben Abbes, Muslim Fraternity's leader, is elected the president of France and afterwards, he moves on quickly with his project of islamization of France. Then Houellebecq makes a surprisingly plot twist in the normal narrative of doom and implosion of France and subsequently, of Europe. Mohammed Ben Abbes reveals himself as an admirer of the Roman Empire and inspired by it, moves to integrate Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Turkey and Egypt into the European Union; moreover, he even proposes to relocate the European Parliament to Athens and the European Commission to Rome; he aspires to be the first elected president of the European Union. With the force of its demography, Islam would be the glue of the new Europe, an reenactment of Rome, and not its destruction: Eurabia. There are innumerable plot holes in this "happy ending", but nevertheless, it is a reminder of history’s cycles, rolling unstoppable.

  • Complemento salarial anual para trabalhadores e famílias abaixo do limiar de pobreza - 350 milhões;
  • Reforço da proteção social através do abono de família e pré-Natal - 40 milhões;
  • Facilitamento das condições de acesso ao RSI - 90 milhões;
  • Reposição do CSI no valor anual de 5022 euros - 8 milhões;
  • Eliminação da sobretaxa do IRS em dois anos - 430 milhões;
  • Redução da TSU dos trabalhadores para 7% - 1050 milhões;
  • Descida do IVA da restauração para 13% - 260 milhões;

...menos governar a própria casa.

We Don’t Call It

Gerald:Well? What do you think, Kyle?
Kyle:Dad? Don’t you think our last new house is big enough?
Gerald:Well, this one is BIGGER!
Kyle:Tomorrow’s trial, Everyone vs. Everyone, is gonna make things a lot worse! We have to stop it!
Gerald:Kyle, let me explain something to you. You see Kyle, we live in a liberal, democratic society; and democrats make laws; and these laws tell us what we can and can’t say; and what we can and can’t do.
Kyle:Isn’t that fascism?
Gerald:No, because we don’t call it fascism. Do you understand?
Kyle:Do you?
Gerald:Just look at how big this house is, Kyle. Just look at it.

South Park – Season3 – Episode 6

More Cosmetics Than Reality

No single elected official has the power to change the system. The system is, in fact, largely unelected and unappointed. The bureaucracies are massive. The cumulative regulations and legislation that empowers them are monumentally complex, impossible for any single mind or any one generation to comprehend. The process of reform is messy, structured so that the special interests with the most lose get decide where it goes. It is highly unlikely that this process will result in an overall net good for the cause of human liberty. This is why there seems to be so little relationship between promised results and actual results. We do well to keep in mind that politics is more about cosmetics than reality.

Apenas Interpreto
